Hi, I’m Debi and I’m the designer and creator of Powdered and Waisted Corsetry
I was born in Malaysia and raised in the Mediterranean before my family eventually settled back in the UK.
Backpacking for a year around Australia when I was 21 and almost twenty years visiting some of the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges as an avid snowboarder, this colourful, multi cultural life has had a huge influence on my passion and eye for fashion, colour, texture and design.
I have a deep appreciation for the smallest detail as well as the overall effect and gain much inspiration from the natural, mythical, enchanted, Gothic and fantasy worlds as well as the fashion world.
My passion for corsets developed over nearly two decades as a wearer/collector. Over twelve years, at weekends, selling mass produced corsets and other garments at large burlesque and fetish events for a friend’s business, I was fortunate to meet several amazing designers and was eventually inspired to study corsetry. This enabled me to create my own unique, couture designs.
My first design was inspired by the glacial ice of the beautiful Chamonix Valley, where, in 1999, I experienced some of the best snow conditions, which enabled me to climb up to the glacial cerrats of Argentière. My love of the mountains and snowboarding was part of the inspiration behind my corsetry brand, Powdered referring to my love of powdered snow and Waisted referring to my love of the corseted waist!
My desire is always to create unique, beautiful, elegant and timeless designs to encompass and emphasise feminine curves.
